inspirational poem.

Free verse poem:
The poem utilizes free verse; the lines are unrhymed and of varying lengths.

The speaker of the poem is describing a trip on which he is embarking. He describes himself as  light hearted means happy and enjoyable. He was free from care .He was optimistic and hopeful. The brown long path is in front of the poet.A road is something everyone uses, whether they are rich or poor or middleclass, and it forces all levels of people to associate with one another.   He is the only person who is in complete control of his life; It is his own choice to choose his own destiny.  He does not have to wish or hope or pray for good fortune. He tells that he, himself, has his own good fortune. So he never asks for his good fortune. There is nothing that he is lacking.

He argues against staying in one place for too long, although the friendliness  may be  true.  Whitman writes of “querulous criticisms.” The use of alliteration here emphasizes the speaker’s carefree tone.

He will reach his destination on his own, and the earth is sufficient to provide him whatever he wants in life.He doesnt want help from others. This is not to say that the road he is taking is full of perfections .  However, the speaker has decided to take those burdens with him and deal with them as they are.

True companionship is not possible in this indoor world, for people, bound by “customs".He doesn't want influencial groups of people around him.He doesn't include himself in influencial people.Poet doesn't want to mix in these poeple so he says that it is better for them to stay where they are.Poet's road is full of obstacles and troubles but he has decided to walk on his path.Instead of problems he enjoys his life.

The poet says "old delicious burdens"
A burdon cannot be delicious. The poet has used this combination of words to express that he has many sweet memories of the people and places which he would like to remember forever.......His heart is full of sweet memories of good and kind people.......
Though he wants to be free from any type of attachment ......The poet has decided to take all burdens and troubles with himand deal with them as they arise.

The road signifies mobility: one can take the road to somewhere new, that means somewhere one can start over. For Whitman the road is a space for gathering the material for poetry.

While for him the journey is the source of poetry. The road is a symbol of a democratic and vital society that just happens to make for good poetry. The road in the poem does not mean the road to travel. The poet wants to suggest the road of life.
