Prepositions of time

 PREPOSITIONS OF TIME : in , at 


1) In :

A )  We use in with longer periods. (e.g.months / years / seasons ).

In summer , in winter ,in 1947 , in May , in the 20 th century

B )  We use in with a part of the day.

In the morning , in the evening .

C )  We use in when we see something as having volume or area.

* He is in the room.

* The girls are playing in the garden.

D ) We use in with cities , towns and villages .

* Sima lives in Mumbai.

* They stayed in America for five days.

E ) We use in to talk about a road or street.

* The Mehtas live in Laxmi Road. 

F ) We use in when we mean inside the building.

* It was very hot in the room.


Remember these phrases

* in the corner if a room

* in the front

* in the back

2 ) at :

A ) We use at with a clock time.

* Our college meets at 8 am.

* at noon

* at lunch

* at 7 O' clock

B ) We say -----

* At the weekend

* At christmas

* At night

* At ten rupees a kilo

* At noon

* At the age of twenty

* At the beginning

C ) We use at to talk about--- a position , events , shops , workplaces , a person's house ir flat , an exact address.

     For eg.....* My father is at home.

                      * She is sitting at the door.

                      * Radha was at party.

                      * I saw him at the supermarket.

                      * She lives at  Tilak Street.

                      * at the seaside , at church , at work , at my house , at the top , at the end if.., at the back of...,at Rampur...

The poet talks about three types of dresses that the Indian Weavers weave .The poetess uses three particular times of the day to describe 3 stages of our life.
